Rape, also referred to as sexual assault, is non-consensual (forced) sexual intercourse or sexual penetration. It is a severe form of sexual abuse.

The rape of women by men is by far the most frequent form of the assault. Studies have found that the majority of rapes are committed by persons known to the victim, and that only 2% are committed by strangers.

[edit] Rape fantasies

A rape fantasy is a sexual fantasy in which a person imagines themselves being coerced, raped, or otherwise forced into a sex act. Normally these remain fantasies but to a limited degree they can be acted out consensually, as a form of BDSM roleplay, known as forced sex role play (FSRP) or ravishment. The term "rape" is often avoided as "ravishment" makes a clearer distinction between consensual roleplay and nonconsensual assault. Forced sex role play is considered edgeplay by parts of the BDSM community.

Since the illusion of non-consensuality is important to the fantasy, one or more safewords are typically employed. This way, a participant can protest without stopping the scene, unless the safeword is used. In healthy ravishment scenes, all participants carefully negotiate what will transpire beforehand. Limits are respected and made very clear, to maintain safety and consensuality. Such negotiation would also include discussion of emotional issues for both partners, especially if there has been a prior history of actual sexual abuse or assault.

Rape pornography is a genre of pornography involving the depiction of rape. It comes in two main variants: filmed videos with actors pretending to be raped or raping, and cartoon animation (often in the form of hentai).
