Sensation play refers to people who enjoy spanking, corporal punishment, or other aspects of BDSM solely for the physical sensations with little or no psychological dimension. Such people do not speak of punishment, nor of dominance and submission, nor of roleplay, but merely of physical acts they enjoy.
Husbands and wifes may enjoy spanking in the bedroom without reference to BDSM devices. A spanker seeks to spank her/his partner for erotic arousal. The spankee assumes a position for the session. Switching in this context doesn't mean reversing roles, just taking a strap to the partner's bare buttocks.
Many people engage in spanking as a form of sensation play at some times and, at other times, in a different context, e.g. the Dom and his sub.
